Q1. What are calories? Why is cutting calories so important to weightloss?
Calories are a measure of the energy contained in the food we consume. The human body uses this energy, i.e. the calories, contained in food for its daily activities. If our daily diet contains more calories than our body uses, then the excess calories get stored in the body as fat. On the other hand, if we reduce our calorie intake to a level lower than our body’s usage of calories, then the body burns up stored fat to make up the deficit. That is why cutting calories is so important for weight loss.
However, the body requires a minimum level of calories for its normal functioning. It is important to strike the right balance by not cutting calorie intake so much that it harms the body’s normal functioning. Modern nutritional practice considers fat loss of 0.5-1.0 kg per week to be a safe rate of weight loss. To reduce fat at this rate, a person’s daily calorie intake needs to be 500 calories less than the body’s usage of calories. That’s the target our nutritionists will recommend to customers who wish to lose weight. We do not encourage crash dieting, both because it endangers your health and because the weight loss will be temporary.

Q2. I don’t want to lose weight. Why should I subscribe to Calorie Care’s service?
Calorie Care meals are designed to provide holistic health benefits, including:
1. Ensuring a minimal consumption of foods rich in cholesterol, saturated fatty acids, trans-fatty acids; multiple research studies have established the link between cardiac disorders and a high consumption of such foods.
2. Providing a good protein-carbohydrate balance at each meal. Carbohydrates provide energy for the body’s activities and protein is required for the maintenance and repair of tissues throughout the day.
3. Providing an adequate amount of dietary fibre; medical research has linked an increased fibre intake (25-30 grams per day) with positive effects on heart disease, cancer, diabetes, constipation, diarrhea, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids and ulcerative colitis.
4. Providing good calcium intake, which is particularly important for women as it reduces the risk of osteoporosis in middle age and later.
5. Providing adequate amounts of raw vegetables and fruits in the diet to provide vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants.
With Calorie Care’s meals, you can be sure that you are contributing to your future health in many ways  even if these benefits are not visible on your waist line.

Q3. How soon will I notice results?
If you stick to the food we send you and you walk at least 30 minutes every day, you will feel a difference within 10 days. If weight loss is your goal, then the first 0.5-1.0 kg loss should be achieved within this period itself.

Q4. I don’t like exercise and I’m looking for an easy way to lose weight quickly. Can Calorie Care help me?
Firstly, Calorie Care does not promise a miracle formula to lose weight quickly and easily. Excess body fat is put on over years and can not disappear suddenly. We recommend a daily calorie intake target that allows you to lose a safe 0.5-1.0 kg per week in a manner that is sustainable and contributes to your overall health. We make the task easy by providing you nutritious and tasty food in carefully calibrated quantities, however you still need to make the effort to break some unhealthy habits (e.g. fried snacks, heavy dinners) you might have picked up over the years.
Secondly, exercise and a healthy diet go hand in hand. We advise our customers to walk at least 30 min daily if they are not getting any other form of exercise. The positive impact of exercise on the body’s functioning and longevity cannot be overstated, yet most of these benefits can be obtained by the moderate exercise of walking 20-30 min each day.

Q8. How does calorie Consumption determines the status of your weight ?
Whether you will gain, lose or maintain weight simply depends on how many calories you consume and burn every day. If you consume more than the required amount of calories, then the unused calories will be stored as fat. To lose weight it is very important that you take in fewer calories than what your body uses up each day. It is only then that your body will call upon and use its fat stores to compensate for the differences in energy supply and demand.

Q9. How many calories should one consume when one wants to lose weight?
To lose, you need to consume fewer calories than your body burns in the day; in scientific terms that difference is called a Calorie Deficit. Scientific research has shown that a calorie deficit of up to 500 calories per day allows safe and sustainable weight loss. A higher calorie deficit will starve the body of essential nutrients and create temporary weight loss (the "yo-yo effect"). A calore deficit of 500 calories per day will allow you to lose 2-4 kgs per month. The calorie deficit can be created by eating fewer calories ("improving your diet") or by burning more calories ("improving your activity level") or a combination.

10. Why is healthy eating important?
Healthy Eating is as important as eating fewer calories when on a slimming diet. Your daily calorie allowance must provide you with all the essential nutrients to keep your body functioning properly. This simply means that you must eat from a wide range of foods to not only give variety, but also to supply those essential minerals, vitamins and proteins. Deficiency of Iron and Vitamin D is a huge health worry for women in India owing to our diets and lifestyle.
